• Palm Tree Gates at the Candelaria Residence

This gate sketch design was done by my Papa for our old family house on Morgan Hill drive. The one with six mosaic turtles hiding at the pool floor, each one representing a member of our full Fil-Am family. The palm trees in San Diego, CA and Manila, PH couldn’t be farther in similarity – but these, standing tall guarding our beloved family home, provided the occasion to climb over the fence, a welcome sense of security and homecoming. Family grave visits trickled in starting 2024, after his death in the Philippines in 2017. The palm tree design was one of the only art techniques from my Papa that I remember him teaching me in depth.
